Our Point of View

AI is Real (Finally)

Since the mid-eighties, I’ve been hearing that AI is just around the corner and about to revolutionize our lives, including our professional lives. But the technology has never lived up to the promise.

Until now.

Over the last 2 weeks, millions of people have interacted with a new AI tool called Chat-GPT . At the risk of losing you from finishing this article, you owe it to yourself to check out Chat-GPT. If you’re at a loss for what to ask, try this complex query in both Chat-GPT and Google.

Give me a 8 day itinerary for visiting Paris with hotels, restaurants, and activities for adults who like clubbing and shopping

In many ways, it is an amazing tool, with detailed, human-like answers to complex questions. Even though Chat-GPT isn’t yet commercial, and it isn’t something that we can build into our marketing plans for the first half of 2023, it clearly points to a future that we need to get ready for today.

Where can Chat-GPT Impact Marketing?

Here are some of the applications of AI in marketing that are ready today and that you should be building in to your near term marketing plans. I’ll be writing posts about each of these uses of AI in marketing over the next couple weeks.

  • AI-Powered Data Cleansing
  • Cross-Channel AI-enhanced Pay-Per-Click Advertising
  • AI-Enhanced Social Media
  • Improved Marketing Attribution
  • Decreasing Churn with Predictive Analytics
  • Real-time personalization on your web site
  • Micro-personalization of Emails

One area that I won’t cover, because I don’t think it’s ready, is AI-generated content. I don’t think the technology is ready and the content that is generated is unlikely to differentiate you or your products and services.

If you have other areas where you think AI will impact marketing, let me know in the comments.
